Challenge

Their major challenge was configuring and managing large lighting networks that included sensors, switching modules, control nodes, and lighting-control modules across warehouses and commercial facilities. Existing approaches depended heavily on physical configuration and manual switches, making installation and maintenance complex. The client required a mobile-based platform that could reliably communicate with lighting devices through Bluetooth Low Energy, support both individual and mesh-network configuration, apply rules across device groups, and provide simplified NFC-based lighting control for facility users.

  • Establishing reliable communication between the iOS application and Bluetooth Low Energy lighting-control devices.
  • Supporting both quick configuration of individual devices and large-scale mesh-network deployments.
  • Managing different hardware types, including PIR sensors, microwave sensors, switching devices, control nodes, and Lighting Control Modules.
  • Applying common lighting settings and automation rules across multiple devices through group-based configuration.
  • Configuring lighting networks across large facilities containing hundreds of sensors and control devices.
  • Maintaining configuration accuracy and consistent lighting behaviour across interconnected devices.
  • Automating lighting operations using motion detection and ambient-light information.
  • Providing simple NFC-based lighting control for end users without exposing technical configuration features.
  • Organizing complex deployments through a structured hierarchy of sites, areas, groups, and devices.
Smart Lighting Control Case Study

Solution

Our team analysed the client’s lighting-installation, device-configuration, automation, and facility-control workflows. Accordingly, TatvaSoft designed and enhanced an iOS-based Smart Lighting Control System that enables engineers to configure individual lighting devices and large mesh networks through a centralized mobile application. The solution was developed using Swift, UIKit, Bluetooth Low Energy, NFC, and the Silicon Labs SDK, enabling direct communication with lighting hardware without requiring Wi-Fi connectivity.

Below are the major capabilities delivered through the platform

  • Bluetooth-Based Device Configuration

Connects directly with lighting devices through Bluetooth Low Energy to configure device settings, lighting behaviour, and automation parameters.

  • Quick Device Setup

Provides a streamlined process for configuring individual devices such as PIR and microwave sensors.

  • Lighting Parameter Configuration

Allows engineers to configure brightness levels, light timeout settings, sensor behaviour, and other lighting rules.

  • Mesh Network Configuration

Supports large installations where multiple lighting devices communicate and operate within a Bluetooth mesh network. application. These capabilities reduce manual processes while improving operational efficiency for installers and support teams.

  • Group-Based Configuration

Enables settings and lighting rules to be applied collectively across multiple devices.

  • PIR & Switch Groups

Organizes sensors and switching devices into logical groups for consistent lighting behaviour.

  • Lighting Control Module Support

Supports the configuration and use of Lighting Control Modules within wider lighting networks.

  • Sensor-Based Automation

Uses motion and illumination sensors to automatically control lights according to movement and ambient-light conditions.

  • NFC-Based Remote Control

Enables engineers to generate NFC cards containing device-group configurations for simplified end-user access.

  • Simplified User Control

Allows facility users to control lighting through a lightweight remote application without accessing engineering settings.

  • Hierarchical Site Management

Organizes lighting installations through a structured hierarchy of sites, areas, groups, and devices.

  • Large Facility Deployment

Supports the configuration and management of extensive lighting networks across warehouses, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings.
